Marketplace case study
Wallet
An in-app wallet for deposits, withdrawals and transaction history in one place.
The problem
On a global marketplace money moves constantly: clients fund projects, freelancers withdraw earnings, and both need to know where every payment stands. Without a native place to hold and track funds, each transaction means leaving the product, repeating steps and wondering whether something went wrong. That friction stops people from completing payments.
How I approached it
I scoped the wallet around the key money journeys: adding funds, paying for work, receiving earnings and withdrawing. For each journey I wrote the requirements and edge cases into the PRD, including failed transactions, pending states and what a user should see at every point, because with money an unclear status is worse than a slow one.
The wallet had to work hand in hand with the payment integrations, so I shipped it in coordination with engineering and planned the rollout to keep transactions reliable. Full transaction history was a deliberate part of the first release, so users can always trace where their money went.
The outcome
A native in-app wallet that handles deposits, withdrawals and full transaction history in one simple place, making transactions on the marketplace faster and easier to trust.
What it taught me
In payments, clarity beats speed. People forgive a short wait, but never a balance they cannot explain.
