Fintech
Personalized investing, designed around the investor.
01The focus
Fintech is where product decisions carry real weight. People are making choices about their savings, their family's future and their tolerance for risk, so a confusing screen is not just an annoyance, it can lead to a poor financial decision. My work in this area, at MAHIR Invest, a SEBI-registered investment advisory firm, is about helping investors choose mutual funds and equities with confidence, by building around who they are and what they want to achieve.
I care about the whole chain, from the first onboarding question to the recommendation on screen, and about how honestly each step communicates risk. I study the Indian mutual fund and equity advisory landscape, benchmark competitors and SEBI norms, and use that research to build a roadmap that rewards quality and transparency over feature count.
What draws me to fintech is how personal it is. Two investors can look at the same fund and need opposite answers, so the product has to listen before it speaks. I think of risk profiling not as a form to get through but as the first conversation between the platform and the person.
Trust is built in small moments: a plain-language reason, a visible risk note, an honest message that something may not suit you. In a regulated space those moments are also obligations, and I treat compliance as a design constraint that makes the product better rather than slower.
02How I work in this area
The work so far spans a personalized recommendation experience that matches funds and equities to each investor's risk capacity, risk appetite, time horizon and goals; an advisory module that turns research into clear recommendations with rationale and risk context; and risk profiling and onboarding that assess capacity and goals before any product is recommended.
Day to day this means writing PRDs, user stories and compliance-aware requirements that cover suitability, disclosures and risk communication, and partnering with engineers, designers and research analysts through sprint planning and stand-ups to ship on schedule every release.
My process starts with research and ends with a launch I can measure. I benchmark, talk to investors and analysts, write the PRD, break it into stories, and keep a short feedback loop with research so the content stays accurate as the product grows.
I keep each release small enough to be understood and big enough to matter. That discipline, plus daily work with engineers and designers, is how recommendations, advisory and onboarding move forward together instead of as separate projects.
